Some Stories

We want to thank you because many have read about the situation in Haiti and some others are sharing with more people. We have been seeing a response, but we still have a long way to go. Still, we trust that God will provide what is needed to bless Haiti.

We want to share some photos that were taken after the earthquake and tell you about two churches affected in the South District.

This is the church of Abrico, and the man in the photo is Pastor Michel Jubitair. This church building had been in this place for 25 years. While we know the Church is not the building but the people, for the Haitian culture, having a place to meet to worship God is very important to the community.

In the Haitian culture, it’s customary to always show you are strong and well, but when we spoke with the pastor, we could see the sadness he felt when he told what had happened with tears in his eyes.

This church has about 120 members, many of whom have also lost their homes. The situation looks very difficult at the moment because there are very few resources. Please continue praying for this church and that we might soon have the funds necessary for temporary structures that would be very helpful.

Next, we want to share about the church of Charpentier, which has 300 members. The pastor in the photo is Jubitaire Manacè, and he is where the building once stood. As you can see, there is nothing there after earthquake. They began to build the church building in 2005 and they were making great progress when Hurricane Matthew hit the island in 2016. It brought great devastation, and the Charpentier church was one of the affected buildings. Nevertheless, they got up and started again. The new plan was not only to build a church building, but also a school.

They were just days away from the inauguration when the e

arthquake happened and the church building collapsed. All the efforts and years of work fell, which was a terrible blow to the members, leaders and the pastor of the church.

The church is very hurt, emotionally speaking, but they haven’t stopped praising God, even in the small space where they are now. They are currently meeting in a garage, and they hope for a miracle.

Please continue praying for the church and all the people affected. Many of them are still sleeping under tarps outside of their homes. Remember, if you want help with the reconstruction, click this link https://serve.nazarene.org/serve/search.xhtml and search for “the project 2021 Earthquake South Haiti", or make your donations directly to the GMC with “the note W&W 2021 Earthquake south Haiti – no team”.

Thanks for your continued prayers and for taking the time to learn more about what is happening here.
