At August 14th morning one 7.2 Richter earthquake whipped unexpectedly the Hispaniola Island leaving many damage in the country specially at the south. After less than one hour a lot of videos and pictures start to turning around the world showing people homeless, fear at the streets and destruction.
This earthquake, until now, according UNOFFICIAL FIGURES made by some ONGs, has left the next numbers:
More than 2,000 dead.
An estimate of 320 missing people.
130,000 partially or totally damaged buildings approximately.
Around 800,000 affected people.
The week after the earthquake we as a team were able to go and visit the affected areas and know the two more affected districts to start to design a disaster response plan. The team was made up of David Campos, Mario López and Jessi Delgado as missionaries and 2 more volunteers called Piard Alcégaire and Enickson Eustache.
Thank God we were able to visit Grand’Anse and south district. We knew the leadership and we carried some supplies for the affected people in that place.
Also we met more about the culture, the food, and we met new people. We also tried the fruits of Haitian lands.
We saw the Power, love and care of God with us and the affected people every single moment. We saw how the people smile, laugh, play and Praise the Lord above all.
Jessi have been working on the response for the needs, there are church buildings affected and for the Haitian culture is very important have one place to be together as community and worship. That's why she is working in how help with this essential part of the culture.
